TTIP: Explosive mixture for transatlantic relations

"Politicians like to tie the free trade agreement TTIP to" big politics" and to the strengthening of the transatlantic axis against China. But that could go wrong: The TTIP negotiating agenda dictated by large companies brings conflicts in the Western camp, says Christoph Scherrer, Director of the International Center for Development and Decent Work."

TTIP Study by Stefan Beck and Christoph Scherrer (2014)

"The currently negotiated transatlantic free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States brings risks in several respects. The welfare effects propagated  by the proponents are, even in the event of their occurrence, not significant and are also likely to be unevenly distributed."

"Free Trade Agreement Ceta confirms critics"

"The arbitrators and lawyers of the great majority of cases are recruited from only 20 large, internationally active firms," says political scientist Christoph Scherrer of the University of Kassel. With Ceta and especially TTIP, this machinery could become significantly more buoyant. According to Scherrer, arbitration has increased dramatically since the year 2000. By the end of 2012, there were 500 cases worldwide". - http://www.fr-online.de/wirtschaft/ceta-und-ttip-freihandelsabkommen-ceta-bestaetigt-kritiker,1472780,28207512.html

ARD German Television Interview on TTIP with Prof. Dr. Christoph Scherrer

"The central problem is, in my view, that the trade agreement does not only address tariffs, but also regulations for services, such as consumer protection, data protection, and democratic participation; and these rules may come under pressure" - Prof. Dr. Christoph Scherrer in ARD interview
